Destin High School Names Josh Rose as New Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach
DESTIN, FL – Destin High School is proud to announce the hiring of Coach Josh Rose as the school's new Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. In addition to leading the Sharks basketball program, Coach Rose will serve as an assistant coach for the school's football and baseball programs and will join the Destin High School faculty as a Paraprofessional.
Coach Rose arrives at Destin High School with a proven record of success, outstanding leadership, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
"I’m incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Destin High School basketball program," said Rose. "I can’t wait to get to work and build something our players, school, and community can be proud of."
Rose has established himself as one of the area's rising coaching leaders through his success at Davidson Middle School, where he has served as both Head Basketball Coach and Head Baseball Coach since 2022. During that time, his basketball teams compiled an impressive 64-9 record, advancing to three county championship games, while his baseball teams posted a remarkable 62-11 record, reaching four consecutive county championship games and capturing two county championships. Combined, Rose has amassed an outstanding 126-20 overall record across basketball and baseball.In addition to his middle school success, Rose has spent the past five years serving as an ESE Paraprofessional while coaching multiple sports. He has also served as an assistant football coach at Crestview High School, gaining valuable experience within a competitive 6A varsity football program that reached the state playoffs twice during his tenure. His diverse coaching background and commitment to student development have earned him a reputation for building strong relationships while emphasizing discipline, accountability, and competitive excellence. "Our program will be built on toughness, accountability, and relationships," Rose said. "Winning is important, but developing young men of character will always be the foundation."
Destin High School Executive Director and school leadership believe Rose's energy, vision, and commitment to student success make him an outstanding addition to the Sharks athletic family.

Rose plans to establish a culture centered on hard work, accountability, and daily improvement. "We’re going to establish a culture where effort is non-negotiable," Rose said. "Every day we’ll compete, improve, and represent Destin High School the right way." He also emphasized the importance of creating meaningful connections between the basketball program and the Destin community. "I want this to be a program the entire community rallies around," Rose said. "We’re going to work hard to make our players visible, connected, and proud to wear Destin across their chest."
While Rose is eager to compete for championships, he understands that building a successful program begins with establishing the right foundation.
"Championships aren’t built overnight, but great cultures are," he said. "If we commit to doing the little things every day, the results will follow."
Rose's impact will extend beyond athletics as he joins the Destin High School staff as a paraprofessional, where he will continue his commitment to supporting students academically and personally throughout the school day.
"This isn’t about me, it’s about building a program our players can believe in," Rose said. "I want every student-athlete who comes through our doors to leave as a better player, a better teammate, and a better person."
Basketball Interest Meeting
Coach Rose invites all current and prospective boys basketball players and their parents to attend a Basketball Interest Meeting on Thursday, July 23, at 5:30 p.m. in the Destin High School Auditorium. The meeting will provide an opportunity to meet Coach Rose, learn about the vision for the program, discuss offseason expectations, and receive information regarding upcoming workouts and the 2026-2027 basketball season.
