Destin High School Announces New Cheer Coaches for 2026–2027

Destin, FL — April 2026 — Destin High School is excited to announce the appointment of Coach Amiyah Merchant and Coach Mazie Armantrout to lead its cheerleading program for the 2026–2027 school year.
Coach Merchant brings a well-rounded background in athletics, student development, and healthcare. A former cheerleader at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), she combines collegiate cheer experience with a strong foundation in communication, organization, and student support. Her approach emphasizes building confidence, discipline, and teamwork while creating a structured, positive environment where student-athletes can thrive both on and off the mat.

Coach Armantrout, a Niceville native, brings an extensive and accomplished competitive résumé. A two-time UCA National Champion with multiple finalist appearances and state titles, she has coached at the middle school, JV, varsity, and all-star levels. Her leadership has helped programs qualify for UCA Nationals, reach national finals, and capture championship titles. Known for her focus on technique, performance quality, and team culture, she is committed to developing athletes who compete at a high level while representing their school with pride.

“This is a dynamic duo,” said Dr. Williams, Executive Director of Destin High School. “We are thrilled to welcome Coaches Merchant and Armantrout. Their combined experience, energy, and passion for developing student-athletes will make an immediate impact on our program.”
